I have heard many engineers voice the same concern that with all this automation that they will be out of a job. I don't agree with this line of thinking, my job and skill set may need to change but I will still be needed. Every network has different aspects. Sure a vendor can throw a bunch of templates out there and let the automation rules do their thing. That may work for some smaller networks. Engineers will still need to be around to design the network, to create the automation rules, and to continually monitor and tune to optimal performance. My job may no longer be staring at flow data and then tweaking my policies, but I will have to define how I want that automation to function to best serve the business.
