The problem with using the Main Poller is that some of the devices that I need to poll are not directly accessible from the Main Poller. When reviewing Storage Manager before moving forward with the purchase we made sure that we had the capability to place an Agent in STM terms on the remote network as a gateway of sorts. We need this because we often have a firewall in place between the network where the STM and SRM servers run and the devices we want to monitor. We load the agent on a machine and open up the necessary port and we can monitor without direct access. This is a security discussion not a scale-out one.
We need this functionality. Can we replicate the same Agent architecture with SRM with relative simplicity?
