We've recently purchased and installed a suite of Orion products including NPM, SAM, NCM, Netowrk Topology Mapper (a few others as well). My issue is specifically with mapping VPN links in Network Atlas (or Network Topology Mapper). According to the SW rep I spoke with, both NTM and Network Atlas use the CDP talbe and MAC table to identify links between nodes. Well, we have about 20+ branch offices that all use IPSEC over VTI tunnels (Virtual Tunnel Interfaces) to connect back to HQ. These tunnels do not support CDP and do not have MACs assigned to them, and consequently, the VPN links between a branch office and HQ are never detected in Network Atlas. We run EIGRP between branch and HQ equipment, so I was thinking it might be possible to draw the link based on the EIGRP neighborship table.
I know that I'm not the first person to try and map VPN connections between devices, so I'm wondering what other people have done to solve this problem. How do you map VPN links in Network Atlas or Netowrk Topology Mapper?
