Great question!
We have patch maintenance on our Solarwinds servers every quarter.
We usually have take down the servers as follows:
- Disable alerts
- Additional pollers first take down (take SolarWinds services down).
- Then take main poller's SolarWinds services down.
- If you are maintaining/ patching up the database server you do so now that the pollers are down.
- I usually do the database servers first (Patch maintenance)
- Then I do the main poller next and when it reboots and is all completed then I make sure the Solarwinds services are up.
- Then I do the additional pollers. When these are up and the SolarWinds services are up then the next step.
- Make sure the main poller can see the additional pollers and turn on alerting!
- Done!
Thanks much,
Cheryl
